You were probably under the assumption that reading a blog named 'My First Year' was a one year commitment. Sorry. Obviously I didn't think I'd ever get this far...
This week I started my sophomore year as a tenth grade teacher. As I begin the new school year I'm ripe with resolutions. Let's hope they don't drop like those other New Year resolutions. (Don't you just love lists?)
This school year I resolve to:
- Exercise.
The only physical exercise I got last year was hauling my considerable-sized black pleather briefcase to and from school. Speaking of that... - Not bring work home.
Ha. I'll start that one tomorrow. Seriously, I'm taking this one slowly... Last night I left the briefcase in the car! - Eat healthier.
How do working women find time to cook/grocery shop? Last year we ate so much junk food! - Stay out of the teacher's lounge. (see # 3 ;-)
Teachers lounges and break rooms in general can be tempting places in more ways than one. Often they are anything but a break from work. We have great inspirational quotes in ours that help keep us positive and on the Narrow Way. One of my recent favorites is "Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events and small minds discuss people." (I was just passing through, and I didn't eat anything! Promise.) - Approach work with a more detached attitude.
Teaching is one of those jobs that never end. There's always more you can do. Bearing too much responsibility doesn't allow students to own their share of the load--and it's a sure-fire way to break your back! Besides, it's not theologically sound. Maybe the control-freak Theology teacher should practice some "Let go and let God." Ya think? - Don't take things so personally.
Sophmore's are, well...sophmoric. Teenagers are in the process of discovering who they are and often specialize in self absorption and unrequited love. Love them anyway. - Have more fun.
Life is good. God loves me. And Christ didn't suffer and die so that I could be miserable. An abundant life and a joy independent of circumstances is what He offers. What a gift it is. All of it. Collect the blessings and give thanks.
Seven--what a perfect place to stop.
